Those of you that have experienced this, and suffered; do not underestimate how strong you truly are! Putting on a brave face and smile every day uses up an enormous amount of energy.
Adrenaline increases your heart rate, elevates your blood pressure and boosts energy supplies. Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, increases sugars (glucose) in the bloodstream, enhances your brain’s use of glucose and increases the availability of substances that repair tissues.
But when the body produces high levels of cortisol and adrenaline in your body during Fight and Flight mode, these chronic (long term) stress and anxiety symptoms of insomnia, high blood pressure, chest pain, headaches, slow digestion, muscle pain to name a few, if not managed can lead to diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, respiratory disorders and inflammation.
Living with chronic anxiety can cause physical stress on your body, especially to your nervous, cardiovascular, digestive, immune, and respiratory systems.
This is where knowledge of Holistic living and the MindBody Connection is key to understanding how to calm ourselves, ignite the parasympathetic nervous system and bring our mind and body into alignment.
Anxiety can be a debilitating condition that affects both mental and physical health. Here are some tips for handling anxiety from a life coaching perspective: As a holistic coach and mind-body practitioner, I believe that anxiety is not just a mental state, but also affects the physical body and produces very real and uncomfortable somatic symptoms. Here are some tips for handling anxiety from a holistic perspective:
- Practice mindfulness
Mindfulness is a powerful tool for managing anxiety. This involves being fully present in the moment, without judgment or distraction. As a holistic coach, I encourage my clients to practice mindfulness techniques such as meditation, yoga, and deep breathing exercises.
- Identify triggers and coping strategies
It’s important to identify what triggers your anxiety. This could be anything from a particular situation, event, or even a thought. By identifying your triggers, you can start to develop strategies to manage them. As a holistic coach, I work with my clients to identify their triggers and develop coping strategies such as exercise, journaling, or talking to a trusted friend or therapist.
- Practice self-care
Self-care is essential for managing anxiety. This includes eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. As a holistic coach, I help my clients develop a self-care plan that works for them.
- Connect with others
Human connection is essential for managing anxiety. I encourage my clients to build strong relationships with friends, family, and community. This network can provide emotional support and practical advice for managing anxiety. If you don’t have this a coach can be a wonderful source of emotional support. We will work on developing communication skills, practicing empathy, and fostering positive connections with others.
- Consider alternative therapies
There are many alternative therapies that can help manage anxiety, such as acupuncture, massage, or aromatherapy. As a mind-body practitioner, I work with my clients to identify therapies that may be beneficial for them and integrate them into their self-care plan. Please note I am not a Holistic therapist myself.
6. Challenge negative thoughts
Negative thoughts can contribute to anxiety. As a life coach, I work with my clients to challenge negative thoughts and reframe them in a more positive light. This can involve practicing positive affirmations or reframing negative thoughts into more positive ones.
7. Develop coping strategies
Developing coping strategies is essential for managing anxiety. This could involve practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga. Other strategies could include exercise, journaling, or engaging in a creative hobby.
8. Set achievable goals
Setting achievable goals can help reduce anxiety. As a life coach, I work with my clients to set realistic goals that are achievable and measurable. This can help them feel a sense of accomplishment and reduce anxiety.
Managing anxiety from a holistic perspective involves taking care of both the mind and body. By practicing mindfulness, identifying triggers and coping strategies, challenging negative thoughts, practicing self-care, connecting with others, setting achievable goals and considering alternative therapies, we can develop a more positive and fulfilling life. As a holistic coach and mind-body practitioner, I work with my clients to help them achieve greater happiness and fulfillment in all areas of life.
